Who Benefits?
Pine Ridge Reservation
PATHSTAR is committed to helping restore the health and
community of Lakota people on the Pine Ridge Reservation
in South Dakota. Situated in the poorest county in the United
States, Pine Ridge residents have a high unemployment
rate (85%), a high school dropout rate (60%). and one of the
highest suicide rates in the country. Obesity, diabetes, and
cardiovascular disease run rampant. Life expectancy is
about 20 years below the national average. PATHSTAR’s
experiential programs will spread information throughout the
community and develop mentors who encourage healthy
diet and lifestyle practices.
